Olivier Chassot has extensive knowledge on sustainability issues, experience in the design, management of funds and implementation of conservation biology programs, biological corridors, leadership of national, binational and regional inter-institutional alliances, and creation of protected wildlife areas. He is a dynamic and passionate conservationist, highly motivated, constantly seeking personal improvement, committed to high levels of professional and personal excellence, always thirsty for knowledge, and capable of building strong intercultural relationships.

ABOUT

Olivier Chassot is Swiss and Costa Rican. He is currently Director of Operations for Shellcatch, Deputy Vice President of the Connectivity Conservation Specialist Group of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCAP-IUCN) and Vice-President for Mesoamerica of the Transboundary Specialist Group (WCPA-IUCN) .

 

He has been Executive Director & CEO of MigraMar (2017-2018), Executive Director of the Tropical Scientific Center (Costa Rica, 2012-2014), Scientific Coordinator of the Tropical Scientific Center, Dean of Environment and Development & Director of the Latin American School for Protected Areas (ELAP) at the University for International Cooperation (UCI). Dr. Olivier Chassot has been Co-Director of the Great Green Macaw Research and Conservation Project, Co-Coordinator of the San Juan-La Selva Biological Corridor Executive Committee, President of the Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation, and Coordinator of the International Network for the Conservation of Connectivity (WCPA-IUCN). He has also been President of the Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB). He was founder and Coordinator of the Mesoamerican Network for Parrot Conservation, as well as founder of the Biological Corridors Thematic Group of the SMBC. Olivier Chassot has received a Bachelor's Degree in History, Ancient History, French Language and Literature (Université de Lausanne, Switzerland), a Master's Degree in Project Management (University for International Cooperation), and a PhD in Natural Sciences for Development (UNA / ITCR / UNED / UNAM Mexico).

 

Author of more than 130 publications and 181 presentations at international conferences and workshops (Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, France, Germany, Ecuador, Peru, Belize, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Honduras, Panama, Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, United States, Colombia, South Korea, Cuba, Chile, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, Paraguay, Austria, Guyana, Monaco, US Virgin Islands, Malaysia and Thailand).
